Starting the Import
1
Click Add New
In the Cloud Panel, click Add New in the top right corner of the header, next to your account menu.
2
Choose Import Existing WordPress Instance
Select Import Existing WordPress Instance and hit Continue.
3
Enter your current site's URL
Type in Your Current WordPress Instance URL. WP Stratos checks the URL to confirm WordPress is actually installed there before moving on.If the domain isn’t pointed anywhere yet or the check fails for a DNS reason, expand Advanced and enter the server IP directly under Optional: Enter the server IP if your domain isn’t working yet.
4
Continue and pick a server location
Click Continue, then choose which data center the new instance should live in:
- Ashburn, VA, USA
- Los Angeles, CA, USA
- Amsterdam, NL
- Dallas, TX, USA
Choosing How to Migrate
At this point you’re given two ways to actually move the site over:Simple Method (Recommended)
Use the migration plugin for WordPress for a smooth, automated process. This is the right choice for the overwhelming majority of migrations, and it’s the one we’d pick ourselves.
Advanced Method
Provide your FTP/SFTP details and WP Stratos performs the migration for you directly, file by file. Reach for this if the migration plugin can’t run on your current host for some reason (a locked-down security setup, an unusual server configuration, and so on).
A migration creates a new, separate instance on WP Stratos. Your original site stays online and untouched until you’re ready to switch your domain over. Once you’ve confirmed the migrated copy looks right, follow the Connect a Domain guide to point your domain at the new instance.
